Weekend Mindfulness in Izu with Dharmacharya Chu Chan Huy

19th - 21st March 2017

We would like to invite everyone to our 3-day Mindfulness retreat, in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh and Plum Village, with Brother Chu Chan Huy (True Radiance). Br. Chu Chan Huy is a senior lay Dharma teacher and the founder-principle teacher of the Montreal Institute of Applied Mindfulness.

The retreat will be held at a modern shukubo (temple inn) that adjoins the local zen temple in Amagi-onsen, Izu. The shukubo will prepare home-made vegetarian meals. We can enjoy the beauty and peace of being in the beautiful country side and have the chance to use the shukubo’s thermal hot springs and stone spa (all included in the retreat).

Let’s enjoy basic mindfulness practices together such as: sitting, walking, and eating meditation, singing, dharma sharing and dharma talks by Br. Chan Huy. The retreat can be a chance for us all to take our time to focus, learn and reflect on The Five Mindfulness Trainings offered by Plum Village and Thich Nhat Hanh. We will have opportunity to explore how the “Path of Happiness”, adopted from the Five Precepts, can be a part of our modern lives.

About The Five Mindfulness Trainings

The Five Mindfulness Trainings, derived from the Buddha's teachings are a dynamic guide- not set in stone. They are like the North Star, always there to guide us back home- no matter where we may be. Written by Thich Nhat Hanh and presented with commentaries in the book: For a Future to be Possible: Buddhist Ethics for Everyday life, the five mindfulness trainings evolve with time and deepen with the experience of practice. The most recent version of the five mindfulness trainings will be provided for us to study together at this retreat.

This retreat is offered to everyone. Individuals who may be new to the practice and seasoned practitioners of the Plum Village tradition are welcome.

The mind can go in a thousand directions,

But on the beautiful path I walk in peace.

With each steps a cool wind blows.

With each step a flower blooms.
